The Durham Police Department (DPD) is a leading law enforcement organization as one of only 500 agencies in the United States and 52 in North Carolina that is accredited by the Commision on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

Durham Police Department is making strides in achieving a demographic composition that reflects our Durham commnity. In recent years there are greater numbers of minoriteies in command positions. The agency has made progress in narrowing the gap between sworn Hispanic respresentation as compared tothe available workforce. Also, DPD's percentage of female officers is higher than the national average for similar sized agencies.
